HumanAbility South Australian Roadshow

28 Feb 2024

Last week was an incredible week for HumanAbility in South Australia!

We had the privilege of engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders across the care, support, and recreation sectors, from educators to sector leaders, regional practitioners to government representatives.

First off was a welcome to the state by TAFE SA, with a fantastic meeting with CEO David Coltman and Executive Director, Academic Development Penny Johnston. It was great to hear about the innovative work TAFE SA is leading across SA, including a key focus on delivering high quality courses to every community across the state.

We then had the pleasure of meeting with the South Australian Council of Social Service (SACOSS) and their members, for a fruitful conversation covering vital topics such as workforce challenges, training needs, and future opportunities. A huge thank you to SACOSS Acting CEO, Rebecca Tooher and to all who attended.

On Tuesday, we held a Forum and CEO Roundtable which fostered collaboration and helped reveal valuable insights that will contribute to our workforce planning. We explored the latest trends, challenges, and opportunities in recruitment and development, identifying critical issues in labour supply and staff retention. Conversations also focused on the importance of visible career pathways, development opportunities and aligning training with job requirements.

A big thank you to Uncle Tamaru who welcomed us to the Kaurna Country through a moving and interactive Welcome to Country and to TAFE SA for hosting us.

On Wednesday, we visited Port Pirie for an in-depth discussion with local leaders and practitioners. We learned about successful practices and brainstormed practical strategies to tackle workforce challenges at both local and regional levels. Thanks to Uniting Country SA and Uni Hub Spencer Gulf for being fantastic hosts.

It was a privilege to meet with SA Education, Training and Skills Minister Blair Boyer and SA Skills Commissioner Cameron Baker to discuss priorities for South Australia and the exciting opportunities that exist across the industries that we represent.  We look forward to continuing to work together.

Thank you to the teams from the Department of Health and Department of Human Services who also met us and shared their key workforce insights.

We sincerely appreciate the opportunity to meet with leaders across South Australia and look forward to collectively working together to continue to strengthen the sectors that we represent.
